Phil Snell, MA, LPC
Hi! My name is Phil, and I am a counselor who works with men, women, parents and couples to identify and understand previous patterns and work to do something differently. I have particular interests in working with parents, individuals with anxiety or depression, substance use, and trauma. Typically, I work with individuals to build up their current strengths or coping skills to reduce the intensity of what they are going through and then move into the deeper reasons for a behavior or issue.
One of my biggest strengths is empathy and I work to honor and understand how previous behaviors may have helped you in the past before looking ahead. When working with trauma or PTSD, we may consider using EMDR, a research-based trauma therapy, to reduce the impact of the past on your daily life. For couples counseling, I use the evidence-based Gottman Method.
Originally from Virginia, I received a bachelors degree in Biochemistry and a Masters in Teaching (Secondary Science) at the University of Virginia. After that, I taught high school for 9 years before moving to Ohio and obtaining my masters in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Cincinnati. In my time off, I enjoy playing pick-up basketball, hanging out with my kids, travel, running/lifting, video games, and board games. For the past year, I've been lucky to lead a group for new dads in Blue Ash.
